Who doesn't like paper roses? I was in a searching frenzy yesterday for some tutorials. They were all showing how to make paper roses using bigger punches (sob). I don't have bigger punches... so I made use of dear old Inkscape and created my "punch" template.
TUTORIAL FOR PAPER ROSES:
1. Download the file called "Paper Roses Template" from my Download section (sidebar). Print it on some thick cardstock and cut it out. (TIP: If you have a 6 petal flower/scalloped circle punch (1 inch one or bigger) then use it instead of my template... it saves you a lot of cutting)
Here are the basic supplies for this: glue, patterned/colored paper, scissors, the template or 6 petal punch, toothpick or cocktail stick, glue and distressing ink (they are optional).
2. Draw and cut out 3 flowers (I will call them 1,2,3). Then fold them in all directions like this:
3. At this point you can distress/emboss the flowers (I don't have embossing powder...arrgh. But if you do emboss the edges)
4. CUTTING: for flower 1 you cut just an edge of a petal. Flover 2 (a single petal). Flower 3 (2 petals). You should be left with 5 elements for the final rose like below:
5. Put glue as shown in pictures below and stick them overlapping 2 petals:
6. With the toothpick curl the petals of the 3 big flowers outwards (leave the 2 cut out petals out) and then cut off the pointy end (so they will fit better).
7. Add a blob of glue in the 5 petal flower and add the 4 petal one inside. Add another blob of glue and add the 3 petal flower. Make sure you press them into place.
8. For the double petal curl the right side inside and the left one outside. Then cut the tip off (you will probably have to trim it further later)
9. Make a roll out of one petal part. Then insert it in the 2 petal part arranging them as you wish (just keep trying until you get something you're pleased with)
10. Probably you will have to trim the last part more to fit into the rest of the rose without standing too up. When you are pleased, just stick it with another dab of glue.
You can add some glitter at the end for a final touch or just let them be:
These were my first paper rose trials... I am pretty pleased and I intend to make more (if the time allows me).
If you liked this tutorial, pop a comment. If you make these roses just add a link with your post so I can come admire your work.
